Winemaking Style
Nurwa Winery is closely associated with Nurwa Village, located in a high-altitude area in Korea’s Taebaek Mountains. The region’s elevation and unique microclimate provide ideal conditions for cultivating grapes with concentrated flavors and balanced acidity. The terroir imparts a distinct minerality and freshness to the wines, setting Nurwa apart from other Korean producers.
Nurwa specializes in 100% organic Meoru grapes (Vitis amurensis), a native Korean wild grape. These grapes are celebrated for their resilience in Korea’s harsh climate and their ability to yield wines with vibrant acidity, medium tannins, and complex aromatics.
The winery employs a low-intervention winemaking process that uses traditional Korean urns for fermentation, a method that helps retain the purity and expressiveness of the Meoru grape. This technique is relatively rare in modern winemaking and contributes to the wine’s unique texture and depth. The signature label - Clo Nurwa Red Dry stands out for its deep, soft flavour profile with medium tannins and pleasant acidity, making it versatile with Korean cuisine.
