Winemaking Style

Nestled in the volcanic soils of Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, Sudosan winemakers are recognized for their focus on native Korean grape varieties, particularly the wild grape known as sanmeoru (Vitis amurensis). The winery is rooted in volcanic terrain, which imparts a distinctive mineral character and complexity to its wines.

Sudosan’s flagship label is the Krate series crafted from 100% organic wild sanmeoru grapes, which are smaller than typical wine grapes but exceptionally rich in minerals and antioxidants like polyphenols and anthocyanins. These grapes are known for their robust flavor, vibrant acidity, and health benefits.

A standout feature of Sudosan’s approach is the use of the Amarone method —late-harvest grapes are dried to concentrate sugars and flavors before fermentation. The wines are then aged for over three years in oak barrels, which adds further depth and complexity.
